The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation TORIS service is a Tennessee-only name-based criminal history check. It is separate from Nashville arrest records and Davidson County court records.
Current TORIS requests are submitted through the online portal or by mail to TBI TORIS Unit, 901 R.S. Gass Blvd, Nashville, TN 37216. The current electronic-results process requires a valid email address. The $29 fee is nonrefundable, and online payment supports Visa, Mastercard, and Discover.
The TORIS request form shows requester fields including name, contact information, address, and email. It also shows subject fields including full name, date of birth, birthplace, race, sex, SSN, and address. These are fields shown on the form and are not a statement that every field is mandatory in every request. The current TORIS portal does not search aliases, even though older form materials may show AKA fields. Ordinary TORIS is a name-based request and does not require fingerprint cards. Juvenile records are excluded unless the juvenile was transferred to adult court.
Older BI0238 materials describe older delivery methods and a 3-5 business day statement; those older instructions should not be treated as an unconditional current delivery promise.
Metro Nashville Police Department Central Records provides a local Davidson County arrest-record route. The public check costs $13 and does not show court dispositions.
MNPD requests use Form 720 and require photo identification. The public-record route requires proof of Tennessee citizenship through a valid Tennessee license or an accepted alternative. Requests can be made by mail or counter service. The Central Records location is 811 Anderson Lane, Suite 100, Madison, TN 37115, and the phone number is 615-862-7631. Mailed requests include a state-issued photo ID copy. Mail payment accepts a U.S. personal check, cashier check, or money order; cash is not accepted by mail.
The Criminal Court Clerk provides court-record access rather than a statewide criminal-history report. Free online summaries and office viewing are available.
Certified copies require a $5 certification-and-seal fee plus $0.50 per page. Noncertified copies cost $0.50 per page. Mailed requests require full payment and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Payment may be made by cashier's check or money order, or by card through 615-862-5601. The Clerk service page and case-search footer conflict on the ZIP code for 408 2nd Avenue North, Suite 2120 (37203 versus 37201); the published conflict should be disclosed when mailing.
Fingerprint products are not interchangeable with TORIS. FBI-only consumer history checks are for personal use, not employment screening. Required fingerprint screening follows the requesting organization's authorized program, ORI, and designated contractor rather than selecting an interchangeable consumer product. Other fingerprint products have separate recipients and eligibility: qualified applicant checks serve authorized employment, licensing, or regulatory uses; volunteer checks serve approved volunteer purposes; international adoption/state-only checks serve their specific authorized purposes.
Where current official instructions verify fees, FBI-only is $50, qualified applicant is $37.15, volunteer is $33.15, and international adoption/state-only is $23.90. TORIS disputes use fingerprint comparison and a dispute letter. The cited memo supports a $24 cashier's check or money order where applicable and does not promise a correction deadline.
